Food typically invokes a sense of fellowship, but when we think of \u201cSoul Food,\u201d it takes it to a whole new level. Visions of candied yams, mac & cheese, fried chicken, fried fish, and collard greens become like the story tale \u201cvisions of sugarplums dancing in their heads.\u201d It is hard not to associate Soul Food without a \u201cgathering of Souls.\u201d Though one singular word \u201cSoul,\u201d there is a dual meaning here for my friends and me because it is not just about the gathering for the consumption of the Soul food as a type of food; it is also about the gathering with the intent to metaphorically feed the Soul. The purpose of the gathering is to truly provide a judgment-free, safe space for my friends to share their truth, whatever that may be for them. There are no masks here. Authenticity is the only requirement for admission. Black Women Matter here. You are seen here. You belong here. You are enough here. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Soul Food Circles are important. Celebrations are important. Honoring each other is important. Prior to the chaos of Covid-19, we tried to gather for these Soul Food Circle feasts at least once every couple of months to touch base, regroup, recenter and recharge so that we could go back out into the world to spread a little Black Girl Magic. Things got a little off-track with Covid-19, and the world got connected but not connected at the same time. Recently, it seemed less chaotic with the vaccinations in place, so we decided to venture out just a little since two of our friends had recently experienced significant life-changing events (i.e., breast cancer). It was October; what better way to feed our souls because collectively, \u201cwe are only as strong as the woman next to me\u201d(Mess In A Bottle – trademark t-shirt). <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
